Temporary Graduate Visa (subclass 485) For Australia
Temporary Graduate Visa As often thought Subclass 485 is not a migration visa but a Temporary Graduate Visa work visa that gives you working rights to gain onshore work experience. This is a temporary visa that allows international students to live, study, and work after they have finished their studies. The Basic Eligibility is: –
(a) Be under the age of 50 years.
- Hold an eligible visa.
- Have a recent qualification in a CRICOS-registered course.
- Applicants should apply for this Visa within 6 months after their course ends.
- Provide evidence (IELTS / PTE Academics) for English proficiency as part of the visa application.
1. To meet the requirements for this visa applicants should have studied for, and been awarded, a qualification in Australia over 2 years or more. The full requirements are as follows:
(a) Applicants must have received a recognized diploma, trade qualification, or degree (such as a bachelor’s, master’s, or Ph.D.) from an Australian educational institution.
(b) The course studied must be registered with the Commonwealth Register of Institutions and Courses for Overseas Students (CRICOS).
(c) The qualification must have been received within the 6 months leading up to the application.
(d) The course must have taken at least 92 weeks of study time and must have taken place over at least 16 months.
(e) The course must have been taught in English.
(f) The student must have had a valid Australian student visa for the duration of their studies.
There are two streams of Temporary Graduate Visa (subclass 485). They are as mentioned below: –
(a) Graduate Work Stream.
(b) Post-Study Work Stream.
GRADUATE WORK STREAM
This visa is for international students who have recently graduated with skills and qualifications that are relevant to specific occupations in Australia. You need to qualify as relevant to an occupation on the skilled occupation list. You must have and maintain adequate health insurance for the whole of your stay in Australia. It lets you live, study, and work in Australia temporarily. It permits you to: –
(b) Bring your family with you.
(c) Stay usually up to 18 months.
The cost for applying for this visa is AUD 1,650/- and the processing time is as mentioned below: –
(a) 75% of applications: 90 days
(b) 90% of applications: 4 months
POST-STUDY WORK STREAM
This visa is for international students who have recently graduated with a degree from an Australian institution. You must have and maintain adequate health insurance for the whole of your stay in Australia. You need a recent degree in a CRICOS-registered course.
It lets you live, work and study in Australia, temporarily. It permits you to: –
(b) To bring your family with you.
(c) Stay usually between 2 and 4 years, depending on your qualifications.
The cost for applying for this visa is AUD 1,650/- and the processing time is as mentioned below: –
(a) 75% of applications: 84 days.
(b) 90% of applications: 3 months.
If you are holding a 485 Temporary Graduate Visa working visa, you have full-time work rights for the duration of your visa. If you want to continue to stay in Australia after your visa expires, you will need to apply for a new visa for a different subclass.
